GURUGRAM: A 25-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by a male co-worker at a private auto-components unit in Sector 37 on Saturday after a workplace quarrel, police said. The suspect, identified as Aslam Mian, about 35, was arrested on Sunday. Police said the scissors allegedly used in the attack were recovered.

The deceased, Shivani, had joined NDR Auto Components Pvt Ltd on 13 July. According to the police account, the two were on sheet-cover cutting work when an argument began. The quarrel escalated after she allegedly slapped him. Police said he then attacked her neck with scissors. She was taken to Vaidik Hospital on Pataudi Road in Kadipur, where she died during treatment.

Sector 37 police were informed on Saturday and a team reached the hospital. The body was sent for post-mortem. Crime team and fingerprint experts examined the factory floor and collected material, including blood-stained clothes. Shivani's father lodged a complaint on Sunday stating that his daughter was injured in a quarrel with Aslam at the company and later died. A murder case was registered at Sector 37 police station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions applicable to culpable homicide amounting to murder, as cited by investigating officers.

Investigation status

Police arrested Aslam from Sector 37 on 6 September. He is a resident of East Champaran district in Bihar. An officer said the case was registered on the complaint and that the scissors were recovered at his instance. During questioning, he allegedly told investigators the dispute started over sheet-cover cutting work. Police are examining CCTV footage and forensic material to fix the sequence of events. Further investigation continues.

A parallel account from investigators described the unit as manufacturing vehicle seat covers and said the two sat at adjacent sewing stations. In that version, the argument began over passing a bundle of fabric before abuse and the slap. The legal position remains that of allegation until a court decides guilt. For now, the verified civic facts are the police registration, the arrest date, the recovery claim, and the hospital death during treatment.

Factory floors that keep sharp cutting tools at every station need clearer incident protocols: who secures the line, who calls emergency services, and how quickly CCTV is preserved. Those steps do not decide guilt, but they decide whether a probe has clean evidence.

Workplace violence complaints demand quick forensic sealing of the shop floor and protection of witnesses who saw the quarrel. Sector 37 industrial units employ large migrant workforces on shift lines. When a fatal assault is alleged inside a factory, both the labour department and police need a clear record of who was on duty, what weapons were within arm's reach, and how long it took for medical help to arrive.
