Four Held for Alleged Assault After Naurangpur Crash

GURUGRAM: Sector 14 police arrested four men on Friday in a case of alleged assault and death threat that followed a collision on Naurangpur Road on 16 August. A motorcycle said to have been used in the attack has been seized. The four were produced before a court on 28 August and sent to one-day police remand.

The complainant, Pradeep, 30, told police that his uncle’s Scorpio had hit an unidentified truck near a petrol pump on Naurangpur Road on 16 August. Later, when Pradeep and a friend took the damaged vehicle to a denting workshop in Sector 12, five or six men allegedly beat him and threatened to kill him. He was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. He approached the police on 22 August. A case was registered at Sector 14 police station.

The men arrested on Friday were identified as Praveen, 23, Karan, 24, and Ajay, 23, all residents of Bar Gujjar village in Gurugram, and Vinod, 26, a resident of Sarai village in Nuh. Police said they work as security guards and drivers with private companies.

Police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said the investigation indicated that Pradeep and others with him had allegedly abused Praveen’s father, who was driving the truck in the 16 August collision, and that Praveen and his associates then allegedly assaulted Pradeep over that dispute. Both sides of that account remain allegations. The FIR that led to Friday’s arrests is the assault complaint of 22 August, not a separate case from the 16 August crash.

From workshop to remand

The alleged attack was not at the petrol pump. It was at the Sector 12 workshop where the Scorpio had been taken for denting, days after the Naurangpur Road crash. Police have not named the workshop. They have not identified the fifth or sixth man the complainant said was in the group. Four have been arrested; the complaint spoke of five or six.

Turan’s briefing is the police version after interrogation: that the truck driver was Praveen’s father, that abuse was alleged at the crash, and that the later beating at the workshop was revenge. Pradeep’s complaint, as recorded, is that he was attacked and threatened when he went to get the car repaired. A court has given police one day of remand to question the four. The motorcycle has been taken as case property.

Naurangpur Road runs toward Manesar and IMT. Bar Gujjar is a village in the same belt. Sarai, Vinod’s village, is in Nuh. Sector 12, where the workshop sits, and Sector 14 police station, which registered the case, are in old Gurugram. The geography of the file therefore stretches from a highway petrol pump to a city workshop to two villages.

Police have not named the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections in the Friday briefing beyond describing an assault-and-threat case. They have not said whether the truck from 16 August has been traced, and they have not released medical details beyond serious injuries.

The four remain accused. Nothing in the police account treats the assault as proved. A court sent them to one-day police remand on 28 August. Sector 14 police have the seized motorcycle as case property and are to place the interrogation record and the complainant’s medical papers before the court.
