Sector 104 Society Endures 23-Hour Power Cut as Fault Claims Differ

GURUGRAM: Around 150 families at Puri Emerald Bay in Sector 104 went without regular grid electricity for approximately 23 hours, from Monday evening until Tuesday, as the distribution utility and the society management offered different explanations for where the fault occurred.
The interruption began around 7 pm on Monday and supply was restored at about 6 pm on Tuesday. Residents said backup power was initially limited to essential common services before being extended as the outage continued. The long duration affected lifts, water pumping, cooling and households working from home.
Utility and management locate the fault differently
Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam has said its external supply was available and attributed the failure to the society's internal feeder or control panel. The society management, however, linked the interruption to the 33-kilovolt line feeding the complex from the Sector 107 substation.
DHBVN has pointed out that the same 33kV line serves another society that did not lose power, which it says supports an internal-fault diagnosis. That is relevant evidence but not a complete technical report. A branch connection, protection device or cable section serving only one complex could still sit between the common feeder and the internal panel.
The disagreement should be resolved through event logs, not competing statements. Substation records can show whether voltage remained available at the outgoing feeder. Meter data at the society's receiving point, relay trip records and control-panel alarms can identify the first device that operated and the time supply returned.
A joint inspection report should record the fault location, failed component, repair made and party responsible for preventive maintenance. Without that document, residents cannot know whether their maintenance charges should fund an internal upgrade or whether the external network requires reinforcement.
Backup plans need duration, not just capacity
High-rise societies commonly maintain diesel-generator backup, but the arrangement varies between common-area supply and full apartment load. Residents should be told in advance which circuits remain available, how long fuel stocks can last and what load restrictions apply during an extended failure.
If backup is limited to lifts and water pumps, management must rotate those services predictably and maintain communication with elderly residents, patients using powered medical equipment and families on upper floors. If apartment supply is provided, fuel consumption, emissions and per-unit charges should be transparent.
Residents have described the outage as part of a recurring problem and criticised the flow of information during the shutdown. That claim needs to be tested against a fault register showing dates, duration and cause. Publishing a monthly interruption log would distinguish isolated internal failures from a weak area feeder.
Sector 104 is part of a rapidly occupied corridor where electrical demand is rising alongside new construction. Utilities and developers need to review sanctioned load, transformer capacity, protection settings and maintenance schedules before peak demand exposes the next weak point.
Power is back, but restoration alone does not close the incident. A 23-hour interruption deserves a shared technical finding and a corrective deadline. Until those are issued, the same unresolved dispute over responsibility is likely to return with the next fault.
