VARANASI: Saumya Singh of Varanasi secured a place in the girls’ singles final of the state junior table tennis competition at Sigra Sports Complex, with Saturday’s results setting up a title match against Shalini Devi of Prayagraj.

The competition is being organised by the regional sports office. The October 24 update confirmed the finalists and the team champions, while listing the singles finals for Sunday, October 25.

In the boys’ team event, Prayagraj won the championship and Agra Hostel finished runners-up. Kanpur took the girls’ team title, with Prayagraj again occupying the runners-up position.

The team results gave Prayagraj a boys’ title and a girls’ runners-up finish. Kanpur’s success came in the girls’ team competition, separate from the individual singles draw in which Saumya advanced for Varanasi.

Singles places confirmed on Saturday

The boys’ singles final was listed between Aryan Kumar of Prayagraj and Rishabh Vishwakarma of Agra Hostel. Adhiraj Majumdar of Kanpur secured third place in that category.

In the girls’ singles event, Bhargavi Tripathi of Lucknow took third place. The final pairing placed the host city’s Saumya against Prayagraj’s Shalini, keeping a Varanasi player in contention for the individual title after the team events had been decided.

Team championships and singles titles are separate parts of the competition. A player’s progress in an individual draw does not by itself change the result already recorded for a team event, and a team trophy does not establish the winner of a later singles final.

Reading a table tennis result

Under the International Table Tennis Federation’s 2026 laws, a game is normally won by the first player to reach 11 points. At 10–10, play continues until one player leads by two points. A match consists of the best of an odd number of games.

That scoring framework explains the difference between a point score, a game and a completed match. The Saturday update named the finalists and medal places but did not supply game-by-game scores, so none are attributed to these players here.

District table tennis association secretary Sarita V. Gokarn wished the participants well as the competition moved towards its remaining title matches. The confirmed local achievement in the latest results was Saumya’s progress to the girls’ singles final.

This report records the position established on October 24: team champions decided, third places identified and the singles final pairings announced for October 25. A Sunday singles result had not been independently confirmed at publication. A final winner requires a subsequent result; qualification alone should not be read as the award of the championship.
