Rail Link Proposed Between Varanasi Cantt Railway Station and Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport

A proposal has been put forward to improve connectivity to Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport by linking it with the railway network. The airport administration has suggested starting a local train service between Varanasi Cantt Railway Station and Babatpur Airport to provide passengers with a faster and more reliable travel option.
At present, the airport is connected only by road, with travelers relying on autos, buses, and private vehicles. Traffic congestion on the route often causes delays, sometimes leading passengers to miss their flights. With nearly 90 flights operating daily and around 12,000 passengers commuting every day, the demand for improved connectivity has grown significantly.
The proposed rail link is expected to reduce travel time and ease pressure on city roads. The idea also complements the ongoing expansion of the airport, which includes the development of a new terminal building, multi-level parking, and upgraded infrastructure to handle rising passenger traffic. If approved, the project could become a major step toward strengthening transport connectivity in Varanasi.
