Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has been summoned by a Varanasi court in connection with alleged remarks made about Lord Ram during an event in the United States. The hearing is scheduled for April 13 in the MP/MLA Court-5 under Special Judge Yajurved Vikram Singh.

The case stems from a petition filed by advocate Harishankar Pandey, who accused Rahul Gandhi of making controversial statements at Brown University in Boston, where he reportedly described Lord Ram as “mythological” and associated narratives as fictional. The petitioner claimed that such remarks hurt religious sentiments.

Earlier, the complaint had been dismissed by a lower court, following which a revision petition was filed in the district court. The current hearing will focus on the maintainability of the petition and whether the case should proceed further.

Rahul Gandhi had not appeared in the previous hearing, leading to delays in the proceedings. The court has now issued a fresh summons, directing him to appear physically. It has also indicated that further legal action may be considered if he fails to attend.
