In a major development for urban infrastructure in Varanasi, the city’s Municipal Corporation headquarters at Sigra is set to undergo a massive transformation. The old and dilapidated structures will be demolished to make way for a grand, high-tech Nagar Nigam Sadan Bhavan inspired by the cultural essence of Kashi and the River Ganga.

The ambitious project, estimated at ₹97 crore (₹9699.65 lakh), will feature a unique architectural design resembling a Shivling, symbolizing the spiritual identity of the city. The building will initially be constructed as a G+4 structure with a total built-up area of 21,858.01 square meters, with provisions to expand up to G+7 in the future if required.

Preparations are underway for the foundation stone to be laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The construction will be carried out by C&DS under Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam on EPC mode, with a target to complete the project within 15 months.

Public-Friendly Ground Floor Design

The ground floor will be designed to provide multiple essential services under one roof, ensuring convenience for citizens. Facilities will include:

Police outpost

Bank and post office

PRO office

Data center and computer cell

Canteen

Birth and death registration office

Record rooms and tax collection room

Additional provisions such as vault rooms, meeting rooms, green room, union hall, lift access, modern washrooms, and server rooms will also be included.

Modern Democratic and Administrative Setup

The first floor will house a grand council hall with a seating capacity of 180 councillors, equipped with modern arrangements for democratic discussions.

The second floor will have dedicated rooms for councillors and VVIP rooms. The third floor will accommodate meeting rooms and the tax department. The fourth floor will feature offices of the Mayor, Municipal Commissioner, Additional Municipal Commissioners, and a large conference hall.

The building will be equipped with two lifts, modern sanitation facilities, and advanced digital infrastructure, aiming to make it the most modern municipal headquarters not only in Purvanchal but across the state.

Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari stated that under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Varanasi is witnessing all-round development. He added that the new Sadan Bhavan will symbolize the fusion of digital governance and ancient traditions, emerging as a milestone in the city’s administrative and cultural evolution.
