Two phones are sitting unusually close together on Flipkart this week. Google's Pixel 10a is Rs 47,999 for 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and Samsung's Galaxy S25 is Rs 55,299 for 12GB and 128GB, or Rs 60,299 for 12GB and 256GB (price as of 9 October 2026, 2:46 AM IST, Flipkart listings). One is Google's mid-range phone, the other was Samsung's main flagship this time last year. If you have about Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000, which should you buy?
The short version: the Galaxy S25 is the faster, more capable phone with a zoom camera, while the Pixel 10a has the bigger battery, the simpler camera experience and a lower price. The detail matters, so here it is.
Price: what the gap really is
Compare like with like. At 256GB, the Pixel 10a is Rs 47,999 and the Galaxy S25 is Rs 60,299, a gap of Rs 12,300. If 128GB is enough for you, the S25 at Rs 55,299 is Rs 7,300 more than the Pixel with twice the storage.
The Pixel 10a's Flipkart price is also well below Google's own store, which listed it at Rs 55,999 when we checked at 2:50 AM IST. We reported earlier that the Pixel 10a had risen to Rs 55,999 from its Rs 49,999 launch price, so the sale brings it below where it started. The Galaxy S25's listing shows a struck-out Rs 1,04,999, which is a list price rather than what the phone sells for, so judge it by the Rs 55,299 sticker.
Performance
This is the biggest difference. The Galaxy S25 runs the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, a flagship chip, with 12GB of RAM. The Pixel 10a uses Google's Tensor G4, the chip from the Pixel 9 series, with 8GB of RAM, according to Google's store page.
For calls, messaging, social apps, maps and video, both will feel quick. The S25 pulls ahead in demanding games, heavy video editing and keeping many apps in memory at once. If you play graphics-heavy games every day, the S25 is the clear choice. If you do not, the Tensor G4 is enough, and Google's software features run well on it.
Display and size
The Pixel 10a has a 6.3 inch pOLED screen at 1080 x 2424 resolution, with a 60 to 120Hz refresh rate and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness, according to Google. The Galaxy S25 has a 6.2 inch Full HD+ screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. Both are compact by today's standards and easy to use with one hand.
The Pixel weighs 183g and the S25 is lighter at about 162g, according to Samsung's launch specifications. Both have IP68 dust and water resistance.
Cameras
The Pixel 10a has a 48MP main camera with optical stabilisation and a 13MP ultrawide, plus a 13MP front camera that records 4K video, according to Google. Zoom beyond 2x is digital, up to Google's 8x Super Zoom.
The Galaxy S25 has three rear cameras: 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, plus a 12MP front camera, according to its Flipkart listing. That telephoto lens is the main camera advantage. It gives cleaner portraits and better shots of a stage or a child at a school event from across the hall.
Pixels have a long reputation for reliable point-and-shoot photos, especially of people and in low light, and Google's editing tools such as Magic Eraser and Best Take are built in. Samsung's photos tend to look brighter and more saturated. Which you prefer is partly taste, so look at sample photos from both before you decide.
Battery and charging
The Pixel 10a has a 5,100mAh battery, which Google rates for more than 30 hours. The Galaxy S25 has a 4,000mAh battery. In daily use, the bigger battery is a real advantage for the Pixel, especially for people who use maps, hotspot or video for long stretches.
The Pixel charges to 50 percent in about 30 minutes with a 45W charger, which is sold separately, and supports Qi wireless charging, according to Google. Samsung rates the S25 for 25W wired charging and it also supports wireless charging. Neither phone comes with a charger in the box, so budget about Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 if you do not already own a fast USB-C charger.
Software and updates
Google promises seven years of OS, security and Pixel Drop updates for the Pixel 10a, which launched with Android 16. Samsung also promised seven years of OS and security updates for the Galaxy S25 at its launch in January 2025. Because the S25 is a year older, its update window ends roughly a year earlier than the Pixel's.
The Pixel runs Google's clean version of Android with features like spam protection in the Phone and Messages apps. The Galaxy runs One UI, which has more customisation and features such as DeX and Galaxy AI tools.
Which one should you buy?
Buy the Galaxy S25 if you game, edit video or want a zoom camera, and you can stretch to Rs 55,299 for 128GB or Rs 60,299 for 256GB. It is a flagship at a mid-range price.
Buy the Pixel 10a if battery life, clean software and a lower price matter more than raw speed. At Rs 47,999 with 256GB, it is the better value for most people who mostly message, browse and take photos.
