In a major counter-intelligence operation, a staff member posted at an Indian Air Force base in Assam has been arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan.

The accused, Sumit Kumar, aged 36, was working as a Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) at an Indian Air Force station. Investigators allege that he was sharing highly sensitive information with Pakistani intelligence agents, including details about the deployment of fighter aircraft and missile systems.

The arrest was carried out jointly by the Indian Air Force and the Rajasthan Intelligence Department after a detailed investigation. Sumit Kumar is originally from Prayagraj, specifically from the Lahurpar area.

Authorities have registered a case against him under the Official Secrets Act. Officials say the information leaked could have posed serious risks to national security.

How the Case Emerged

The investigation reportedly began in January when intelligence agencies arrested Jhabra Ram from Jaisalmer on similar espionage charges. During interrogation, Sumit Kumar’s name surfaced as an important link in the network.

Based on the information obtained during questioning, authorities tracked down Sumit Kumar and arrested him for allegedly passing confidential defence-related information to foreign agents.

Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the espionage network and whether more individuals are involved.
