VARANASI, 30 Jan 2026 — Prof. T.K. Lahiri, a Padma Shri awardee and one of India’s most respected cardiothoracic surgeons, has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sir Sunderlal Hospital, Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
According to reports, the veteran doctor has been unwell for the past 17 days, leading to his hospitalization today. Known for his legendary dedication and selfless service to patients, news of his admission has drawn immediate concern from the medical fraternity and the Varanasi community.
BHU Vice-Chancellor Reviews Situation Following the news of his admission, BHU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi visited Sir Sunderlal Hospital to personally assess the situation. During his visit, Prof. Chaturvedi met with the medical team to review the treatment protocol being administered to the senior surgeon.
