What time are the Oscars 2027 in India?
The Academy's 12 May host and broadcast announcement gives 7 pm ET and 4 pm PT for the ceremony at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. On that date, the Eastern Time conversion places the start on the following morning in India.
The same announcement confirms Conan O'Brien as host, with Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan as executive producers. It names ABC and Hulu for the US broadcast and streaming arrangements. Those US services should not be treated as confirmation of an Indian streaming partner; the cited announcement does not identify one.
For an Indian viewing calendar, the Monday morning date matters as much as the Sunday date in American publicity. The 4:30 am figure refers to the announced ceremony start. It is not a separately verified start time for any red-carpet programme or local broadcaster's coverage.
When will Oscars 2027 nominations be announced?
The published nomination announcement is scheduled for 21 January 2027, after the January voting window. In October 2026, an official entry announcement, a festival award or an awards campaign therefore cannot establish a place on that future final nominations list.
The Academy's voting guide explains that eligible members vote through secret online ballots. Best Picture nomination voting draws on eligible members across the Academy's branches. Other categories use the relevant branch or members who satisfy that category's requirements. This is not an open public popularity poll.
Preliminary voting produces shortlists in designated categories before nominations voting. Final voting is another round, determining the eventual winners. These stages describe progress through the process, so use the precise label attached to the Academy's announcement when discussing a film's status.
Is an Indian Oscar entry already an Oscar nominee?
No. The Academy's International Feature Film FAQ says a committee's selection does not automatically establish eligibility. Submitted materials still undergo review. Each country or region can have one official selection through an Academy-approved committee.
The 99th awards also provide a route through specified festival awards for non-English-language films. That route depends on winning a designated award, not merely screening at a festival. The FAQ names qualifying awards at Berlin, Busan, Cannes, Sundance, Toronto and Venice.
The International Feature Film category rules describe a shortlist of 15 films followed by five nominees. Members voting in the nominations round must have viewed all shortlisted films. Final voting in the category is limited to eligible active and life members who have seen all five nominees.
For example, a hypothetical film selected by its national committee has reached the submission stage. If it later appears among the Academy's 15 shortlisted titles, its status changes to shortlisted. Only selection among the final five makes it a nominee in this category. These are illustrative stages, not claims about any particular Indian film.
What changed in the 99th Oscars rules?
The Academy's 1 May rules announcement says an actor can receive nominations for multiple performances in the same category when those performances rank in the top five votes. It also fixes the cinematography preliminary shortlist at 20 films and increases the maximum casting statuettes from two to three.
For International Feature Film, the film is credited as the nominee and the director accepts the award for its creative team. Those provisions help explain why a national selection, an individual filmmaker's credit and a category nomination should be described separately in awards coverage.
