Odisha Releases D.El.Ed Merit Lists for Urdu and Kandhamal Quotas

SCERT Odisha and the Directorate of Teacher Education released state-level merit information for the Urdu and Kandhamal quotas in the D.El.Ed admission process on Wednesday, 9 September. Candidates should check the Student Academic Management System portal for their status and the next institute-level instructions.

The update follows the Common Entrance Test held from 7 to 11 August and the declaration of results on 30 August. Candidates were given a window to edit the Common Application Form on 1 and 2 September, after which provisional and institute-wise merit stages began.

D.El.Ed, the Diploma in Elementary Education, is a teacher-education programme rather than a direct appointment to a government school. Admission establishes a place in the training course; future recruitment will still depend on the qualifications, teacher-eligibility requirements and vacancy rules in force at that time.

How to read a provisional merit list

Candidates should search the official SAMS portal using the application or login details requested and download the relevant list or intimation. A name on a merit list should be matched against the application number, quota, category and institute information. Similar names make a roll or application number the safer identifier.

The admission calendar distinguishes state-wide and institution-wise information. Current reporting lists the institution-wise provisional merit-list window for the Urdu and Kandhamal quotas from 9 to 11 September. Candidates should therefore look beyond a general score or rank and check whether the portal has assigned an institute, a reporting date or a document-verification requirement.

“Provisional” matters. The listing remains subject to verification of eligibility, certificates and the claims made in the application. An applicant should not treat a downloaded PDF as final admission before completing the steps prescribed by the receiving institution.

Documents and quota claims need close attention

Teacher-education admissions commonly require academic records, proof of date of birth, residence and category documents, along with certificates supporting any special quota claimed. The precise SAMS instruction and intimation letter should determine the file. Candidates applying under Urdu or Kandhamal provisions should make sure the relevant supporting record is current, legible and issued by the competent authority.

If the merit-list entry contains an error, a candidate should use the official admission contact channel immediately. The earlier Common Application Form editing window has closed, so a correction cannot be assumed merely because the candidate can explain it at the college gate. A dated email, grievance number or acknowledgement is preferable to an informal call alone.

Applicants should also verify fee amounts and payment modes through the portal or allotted institution. Merit-list periods often attract unofficial agents who offer to “confirm” an allotment or change an institute. No private payment can replace the central admission procedure, and credentials should not be shared with a third party.

For candidates not appearing in the current list, the next step depends on the official schedule and their quota position. They should avoid interpreting another candidate's screenshot as evidence of a universal cut-off. State-wide, category-wise and institute-wise cut-offs can differ, and later vacancy or selection stages should be followed only when SCERT Odisha posts them.

The release is a narrow but consequential step for aspiring elementary teachers. The immediate priority is not to speculate about later recruitment; it is to establish exactly what the SAMS portal now requires. Download the relevant merit information, confirm the identifiers, assemble original documents and note the admission deadline before making travel arrangements.
