MCC Extends NEET-UG Round 1 Registration and Choice Filling

The Medical Counselling Committee has revised the first-round schedule for NEET-UG 2026 counselling, extending the window for registration and college choices before the first allotment. Candidates can now register until 2 pm on August 15 and pay the counselling fee until 5 pm that day, according to the updated calendar.

Choice filling remains available until 6 pm on August 17. The locking window is scheduled from 10 am to 6 pm on August 17, after which MCC will process allotments on August 18 and publish the Round 1 result on August 19. Candidates receiving a seat are expected to report or join between August 20 and August 25; institutes will verify joined-candidate data on August 26.

The extension gives applicants breathing room, but it should not encourage a last-hour submission. Registration, payment and choice entry are separate tasks, and a successful bank debit is not always the same as a completed application. Candidates should log back in, confirm the status and save the final registration and choice pages.

Choice order deserves particular care. MCC does not allot a college merely because it appears somewhere on a list; the system works through rank, eligibility, reservation rules, available seats and the order entered by the candidate. Applicants should place options in genuine preference order, after checking fees, bond conditions, location, hostel availability and the institution’s recognition status. Copying another person’s list can produce a seat that is financially or practically impossible to accept.

The counselling covers MBBS, BDS and BSc Nursing seats within MCC’s remit, including the 15 per cent All India Quota and specified seats in deemed and central universities, AIIMS and JIPMER. State-quota counselling follows separate authorities and schedules. Registering with MCC does not automatically register a candidate for a state process.

Published national figures for 2026-27 list 823 medical colleges and 1,36,939 MBBS seats, including 63,296 in government colleges and 73,643 in private colleges. Those totals are useful context, not the Round 1 seat matrix. Candidates should rely on the matrix and notices visible in the current MCC portal when building choices because additions or withdrawals can occur during counselling.

Before locking, applicants should check category and NRI claims, PwD documentation where applicable, and whether personal details match the NEET application. A correction that seems minor can become material at institute reporting. All documents should be carried in the form and number specified by MCC and the allotted college.

Candidates who do not receive a first-round seat should read the subsequent-round rules rather than assume their registration has ended. Those who do receive one must understand how acceptance, upgrade, resignation and security-deposit provisions interact. The information bulletin, not a coaching video, is the authority on those consequences.

The revised schedule resolves uncertainty over the immediate dates. The safest strategy now is unglamorous: complete registration early, research the full cost of every option, arrange choices deliberately and keep proof of each portal action. Candidates should also keep their registered phone and email active for official alerts. In medical counselling, a missed click can matter as much as a rank.
