Municipal Commissioner Orders Night Drain Cleaning and Extra Pump for Susuwahi

Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal, after a Sunday, 6 September 2026, inspection round through waterlogged colonies, directed night special cleaning of drain mouths at Giri Nagar and the installation of an extra pump at Susuwahi. Jal Kal General Manager Anoop Singh accompanied the round. Ward corporator Suresh Patel was present when the Susuwahi pump instruction was given. Nagpal said floating plastic and household waste were clogging drain mouths and that obstruction of drainage would not be tolerated. The inspection covered Vivekanandpuram, Giri Nagar, Saket Nagar in the Mahmoorganj belt, and Susuwahi. The civic lead is specific: night crews on Giri Nagar drains, and an additional pump where Susuwahi’s existing capacity was judged short.

The order sits in the post-flood sanitation phase of the city’s monsoon file. It is not a river-gauge story. It is a municipal operations story about blocked outlets and pump reinforcement. Colonies that sat in knee-deep water through the week’s rain need clear mouths and working pumps more than another recital of the Ganga reading.

Jal Kal GM Anoop Singh’s presence ties the pump instruction to the water-utility chain rather than to a purely political walkabout. Corporator Suresh Patel’s presence at Susuwahi links the ward representative to the same instruction residents have been demanding through prolonged waterlogging. Those names are the official cast on Sunday’s round.

Night cleaning is the tactical choice. Daytime traffic and open shopfronts make heavy desilting harder on busy colony roads; night windows let crews pull plastic and silt from mouths with less conflict. Whether that window is used every night until the mouths stay clear is the follow-up this desk will watch—not the press line alone.

Susuwahi’s extra pump is a capacity add, not a redesign of the ward’s drainage map. If outfalls remain choked upstream, one more pump moves water without solving the clog. Nagpal’s dual instruction—clean the mouths at night and add pumping at Susuwahi—reads as an attempt to hit both ends of that problem in the same round.

Residents in Giri Nagar and Susuwahi measure success by dry thresholds and passable lanes, not by the number of officers who walked the beat on Sunday. The municipal commissioner’s line that drainage obstruction will not be tolerated sets a public standard. Delivery against that standard is the next test.
