Railway Police Arrest Rohit Tiwari From Varanasi Over Alleged Train Robberies

Danapur railway police say they have arrested Rohit Tiwari alias Guddu Tiwari from Varanasi after an SIT investigation into alleged robberies and the throwing of passengers from moving trains on the Danapur division, Railway DSP Kanchan Raj confirmed in a briefing this week.

According to officers, Tiwari allegedly posed at times as an STF personnel and at times as an RPF staffer to intimidate passengers, with a pattern of targeting younger travellers and those who appeared intoxicated. The SIT’s working case list includes a 6 September incident in which Kailash Kumar and Ritesh Kumar, travelling from Buxar toward Patna, were allegedly robbed; police say Kailash was bound and thrown between Bihta and Sadisopur and later found dead, while Ritesh was injured and later helped identify the accused.

A separate alleged incident on 19 September involves Nitin Kumar, who was returning from Hyderabad toward Danapur. Police say he was thrown from a moving train and died, and that calls demanding money were later made to his relatives using his phone while the caller claimed to be from the STF. Probe threads also mention a Phulwari Sharif-linked case involving Manish Kumar of Ara with a similar alleged method. All of these remain allegations under investigation and prosecution; this desk is not declaring guilt.

DSP Kanchan Raj said an SIT used CCTV and technical location work after earlier raids in Patna, Ara and Buxar. Officers say the accused had no fixed address and moved between stations and lodgings. He was ultimately arrested from Varanasi — Mohansarai area, according to some police briefings — and taken into questioning. Police further said he had spent roughly twenty-five months in judicial custody in earlier cases and had been released only about two months before these alleged offences. He has since been remanded to judicial custody in the present matters, officers added.

Two other persons who were allegedly in his contact circle were also taken for questioning, according to the railway police update. The SIT continues to check mobiles, contact trees and older incident reports for possible additional victims.
