Minister Inspects Damaged Road in Dhab, Orders PWD to Speed Up Work

VARANASI: A minister inspected a damaged road in Dhab and directed Public Works Department officials to accelerate the construction process, responding to concerns that the deteriorated stretch is disrupting local movement.

An on-site instruction can break an administrative delay, but residents need more than a verbal deadline. The PWD should identify the sanctioned length, budget, contractor, work stage and expected completion date in writing.

The inspection reportedly included discussion of funding and the pace of work. Officials must now determine whether delay resulted from monsoon conditions, utility shifting, land issues, contractor performance or late release of money. Each cause requires a different remedy.

Repair the drainage, not only the surface

Rural roads often fail where water stands along the edge or crosses the carriageway. Laying a fresh surface without restoring drains and culverts can produce another round of potholes within one season. Engineers should photograph the base and drainage work before it is covered.

Temporary safety measures are necessary while construction continues. Deep cuts, loose aggregate and unfinished shoulders should be marked with reflective barricades. Villagers need a passable route for ambulances, school vehicles and agricultural transport even when a section is under work.

Quality control in public view

The site board should state the project details and grievance contact. Residents can then report a specific defect instead of relying on political visits. Material tests and measurement-book entries should be available to the supervising department and reviewed before final payment.

Speed must not become an excuse to skip compaction or lay asphalt on a wet, unprepared base. Accelerated work is useful only when the finished road survives traffic and rain. PWD engineers remain responsible for technical standards even under pressure for an early opening.

The contractor should also manage dust and remove excavated material from drains and field entrances. Access to homes and shops cannot be blocked indefinitely without a communicated plan.

After completion, the department should schedule a joint inspection and publish the date the defect-liability period begins. That makes it possible to require repairs if the surface fails prematurely.

The Dhab visit has placed official attention on a road residents use every day. Its value will be measured not by photographs from the inspection but by a safe, drained and durable route delivered against a public timeline. A written action note within days would show that the direction to speed up has entered the engineering workflow rather than ended with the convoy’s departure.

The supply office should state which project milestone will follow the ministerial visit and who is accountable for it. Public works improve when directions become dated tasks. A notice at the site can let villagers see progress without waiting for another inspection convoy.
