MCC Extends NEET UG Choice Filling to 11.59 pm Today

The Medical Counselling Committee has extended the Round 1 choice-filling window for NEET UG 2026 until 11.59 pm on Tuesday, August 18. The fresh notice, issued on Monday evening, gives candidates additional time to enter and arrange preferences for MBBS, BDS and BSc Nursing seats covered by the central counselling process.
Choice locking began at 5.30 pm on August 17, according to the same notice. Candidates should treat the new deadline as the final published cut-off unless MCC posts another official revision. A message from a coaching group or an unverified social-media account is not a substitute for the schedule on mcc.nic.in.
The order matters as much as the list
Choice filling is not a formality. The allotment system considers the candidate's rank, eligibility, category, available seats and the order in which institutions and courses have been placed. A college entered near the top is treated as a stronger preference than one placed lower down.
Candidates should therefore avoid copying another person's sequence. Fees, bond conditions, service requirements, hostel availability, language, distance from home and the type of seat can make two apparently similar options quite different. The participating-institute details and current seat matrix should be checked before the list is finalised.
A useful last review is to read the sequence from first choice to last and ask a simple question at each line: would I actually join this course if it were allotted? An option should not remain in the list merely because the institution has a familiar name. Allotment rules can leave a candidate responsible for the consequences of a choice that was submitted voluntarily.
Save proof before the portal closes
After making changes, candidates should confirm that the portal has saved them and retain a copy or screenshot of the final list. Where the system provides a locking confirmation or downloadable document, it should be stored with the registration and payment records.
Families should not share passwords, one-time codes or remote access to their device with anyone offering to fill choices for them. A counsellor can discuss options, but the candidate should see the final order before it is submitted. Errors involving a course, campus or quota are much harder to repair after processing begins.
The extension notice changes the choice-filling deadline; it does not by itself change eligibility or create a new registration opportunity. Candidates must read it alongside the official information bulletin and later MCC updates. The portal currently carries a revised Round 1 schedule as well as the August 17 extension.
What follows the deadline
Once choice filling closes, MCC processes seat allotment using the submitted preferences and available matrix. Candidates should monitor the official site for the result and reporting instructions rather than rely on an older calendar saved earlier in the month.
Allotment is only one stage of admission. Successful candidates will need to follow the stated reporting procedure, produce original documents and meet the admitting institution's conditions. Category, nationality and disability claims must be supported in the prescribed format.
The extra hours are valuable, but they should be used for a calm audit rather than a wholesale reshuffle prompted by rumours. The safest final list is one built from verified course information, ordered according to the candidate's genuine willingness to join and saved with a clear record before 11.59 pm.
