Varanasi: A shocking case of murder has come to light from Lachhapur village under the Mirzamurad police station area in Varanasi, where a man allegedly killed his sister-in-law with an axe following a domestic dispute.

According to police sources, the accused, identified as Ajit Patel, attacked 32-year-old Poonam Patel on Saturday morning while she was drying wheat outside her house. He reportedly struck her multiple times with an axe, targeting her head, back, and leg, leading to her death on the spot due to severe injuries.

In a disturbing turn of events, the accused did not attempt to escape after the incident. Instead, he remained seated near the victim’s body with the blood-stained weapon and reportedly informed both the police and his elder brother about the crime.

Police teams reached the spot soon after receiving the information, took the accused into custody, and sent the body for post-mortem examination. A forensic team was also deployed to collect evidence from the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the motive behind the murder was a family dispute. The accused allegedly wished to marry his sister-in-law’s sister, a proposal that Poonam had opposed. This disagreement is believed to have caused tension within the family prior to the incident.

A case has been registered based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family. Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain all aspects of the crime.
