Amid rising global tensions linked to the West Asia conflict, the government of India has relaxed rules for kerosene distribution to tackle pressure on LPG supplies.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, petroleum safety and licensing norms have been eased so that kerosene can be distributed faster to households for cooking and lighting. The temporary measure will benefit 21 states and Union Territories facing increased demand for cooking fuel.

Under the new arrangement, select petrol pumps operated by public sector oil companies will be allowed to store and distribute kerosene, helping ensure that households continue to get alternative fuel if LPG supply tightens.

The move comes as the Middle East conflict continues to impact global energy supply chains, raising concerns about cooking gas availability in several regions.
