KCET Round 3 Fresh Option Entry Opens for Engineering and Other Courses

The Karnataka Examinations Authority has opened fresh option entry for the third round of UGCET/KCET 2026 seat allotment, giving eligible candidates another opportunity to add college and course preferences for remaining seats.

The Round 3 link covers engineering and other professional-course streams handled through the KCET counselling system, including pharmacy, agriculture and veterinary science where applicable to the candidate. Access and the exact set of choices depend on eligibility shown in the individual login.

This is more than a chance to rearrange an old list. Reports on the KEA update say candidates can enter fresh options for the round. That makes it important to rebuild the order carefully rather than assume preferences saved earlier will produce the intended result.

Start with the live seat and eligibility view

Candidates should log in through the official KEA website and confirm that the Round 3 option-entry link appears on their dashboard. The portal, not a forwarded timetable, is the controlling record of whether a candidate can participate and when the window closes.

Before entering choices, download or review the latest vacancy information and remove combinations that are not actually acceptable. A college name can appear against several course codes, quotas or campuses. Selecting the wrong code is still a valid preference if the system accepts it.

The order should run from the most desired combination downward. Do not place an “unlikely” course above a preferred one merely because its previous closing rank looked higher. Allotment engines follow the confirmed preference order and current eligibility; they do not know which entries a candidate added only for experimentation.

Understand what a new allotment does

Round 3 rules can have stronger consequences than an early counselling round. Depending on the candidate's earlier choice and the KEA instructions, a new allotment may replace the existing seat, freeze automatically or leave no option to reject without consequences.

Candidates who already hold a seat should read the Round 3 note on Choice 1, Choice 2 and any surrender or cancellation provision before confirming fresh preferences. Paying a fee or downloading an admission order in an earlier round does not guarantee that the same seat remains available after an authorised upgrade.

Anyone considering a betterment attempt should keep copies of the current allotment order, fee receipt and document-verification slip. These records are useful if the dashboard changes after the next result.

Check the college beyond the cut-off

Vacancies late in counselling can arise for many reasons. Some are normal withdrawals; others may reflect high fees, distance, a newly approved intake or low demand for a course. A vacant seat is not automatically a poor choice, but it deserves a quick verification.

Check the exact campus, affiliating university, approval status, annual fee, hostel availability and travel time. For agricultural or veterinary options, confirm the specific programme and institution rather than treating every science-related code as interchangeable. For engineering, examine the curriculum and placement disclosure for the branch, not only the college's overall headline.

Candidates should also ask whether the academic session has already begun and how missed classes will be handled. A late allotment must come with a workable reporting and induction plan.

Confirm, save and avoid unofficial payments

An option list normally becomes binding only after the required confirmation step. Candidates should use the preview, verify every row, confirm within the live deadline and save a PDF or screenshot showing the final order and timestamp. An unconfirmed list may not be considered.

Use only the payment route inside the official KEA workflow. No agent can create a government-quota allotment or reserve a vacancy outside the portal. Requests for payment to a personal account are a warning sign.

After option entry closes, candidates should monitor the KEA site for the allotment result and the round-specific fee and reporting instructions. Dates can change, particularly when court orders or overlapping medical-counselling schedules affect the seat pool.

The fresh-entry facility is useful precisely because it lets candidates respond to the seats that remain now. It should not be treated as a reason to fill hundreds of indifferent choices. A short, truthful list in the correct order is safer than a long list containing colleges or courses the family cannot realistically accept.
