Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that more than three crore fake accounts have been removed from the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) portal as part of the government’s efforts to curb illegal ticket touting.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha during Question Hour, the minister said the move aims to ensure that genuine passengers can book train tickets without interference from agents and touts who misuse fake accounts.

Vaishnaw also highlighted that the government’s focus remains on providing comfortable and affordable rail services for passengers across the country. To handle increasing travel demand and reduce overcrowding, Indian Railways has operated more than 75,000 special trains during the current financial year.

Addressing concerns about overcrowding in long-distance trains, the minister explained that the railway system prioritizes affordable travel options. According to him, around 70% of train coaches are general and sleeper coaches, while 78% of seats are in non-AC categories, ensuring that the majority of passengers can travel at lower costs.

The government believes that removing fake accounts and strengthening the ticketing system will make the online booking process more transparent and fair for genuine travelers.
