IndiGo Guwahati-Kolkata Flight Diverted to Varanasi Due to Bad Weather

VARANASI, INDIA — Severe adverse weather conditions and low visibility over Kolkata forced an IndiGo flight originating from Guwahati to make an unexpected diversion to Varanasi's Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport on Monday.

The flight, carrying over 100 passengers, landed safely at Varanasi before resuming its journey to Kolkata once weather conditions improved.

Adverse Weather Prevents Landing in Kolkata

IndiGo flight 6E6729 departed from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati at approximately 1:30 p.m.. The aircraft reached the airspace of Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport around 2:15 p.m., as per schedule.

However, dense cloud cover and reduced visibility prevented Air Traffic Control (ATC) in Kolkata from granting landing clearance.

Passengers Wait Onboard at Varanasi Airport

The flight touched down at Varanasi’s Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport at around 4:00 p.m.

Following standard operational procedures:

• Safety Maintained: More than 100 passengers on board remained seated inside the aircraft while the flight crew monitored Kolkata's weather updates.

• Onboard Wait: Passengers stayed inside the aircraft for approximately one and a half hours.

• Flight Resumption: Once weather conditions over Kolkata cleared, the flight received clearance to take off from Varanasi at around 5:30 p.m., successfully completing the final leg of its journey.

Airline representatives confirmed that all passengers and crew members arrived safely in Kolkata.
