IIM Bangalore and Tata Trusts sign MoU for Dorabji Tata School of Undergraduate Studies

Noel Tata signed for Tata Trusts. Dr Devi Shetty, Chair of the IIM Bangalore Board of Governors, signed for the institute. On 21 August 2026 the two put their names to a memorandum of understanding for the “IIM Bangalore – Dorabji Tata School of Undergraduate Studies.”

Ten days later, on 31 August, the first undergraduate batch is scheduled to begin. Eighty students. Forty in each of two BSc (Hons) programmes. The gap between the MoU and the first lecture is short — and that is how the announcement has laid it out.

Two programmes, one residential campus

The opening degrees are BSc (Hons) Data Sciences with a minor in Economics, and BSc (Hons) Economics with a minor in Data Sciences. The pairing is deliberate: each track carries the other field as its minor.

Classes start at the residential campus in the Jigani–Anekal area, about 23 kilometres from Bannerghatta. Hostel and travel instructions for joining students will follow IIMB’s own joining circulars closer to 31 August. The MoU date and the batch start date do not, by themselves, confirm that every facility on campus is finished; this report does not claim building readiness beyond the stated start.

The school drew about 12,000 applications for the intake. Against that pool, 80 seats is a tight first cohort. Seat numbers beyond the 40-plus-40 split for the opening batch have not been detailed in the materials available here. What Tata Trusts has agreed to support

Readers should treat the partnership as a structured support MoU whose financial scale remains undisclosed. IIMB’s undergraduate move into these dual BSc (Hons) tracks is what the public announcement confirms.
