IIM Bangalore Opens Fresh UG Admission Window on August 17

The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore will open a fresh undergraduate application window on August 17 for its four-year BSc (Honours) programmes in Economics and Data Science. The new schedule gives eligible candidates until 5 pm on October 15 to apply through the institute’s undergraduate portal.
The two degrees sit within IIMB’s School of Multidisciplinary Studies. Economics students take minors in Data Science and Business Studies; Data Science students take minors in Economics and Business Studies. The combined intake is 80, with 40 seats in each major, making the selection process considerably smaller than a typical public-university admission exercise.
The institute has scheduled its undergraduate admission test for November 15. Candidates shortlisted through the test are expected to attend personal interviews in the second or third week of January 2027. Selection and the waiting list are planned for the third week of February. The final composite score will give 60 per cent weight to the admission test and 40 per cent to the interview.
Applicants must have completed Class 12 or an equivalent qualification from a recognised board with Mathematics as a subject for either major. The notice also requires at least 60 per cent in Mathematics in Class 10. Candidates should consult the official rules for category-related relaxation, equivalence and age conditions rather than assume that requirements from an older IIMB cycle remain unchanged.
The calendar deserves attention because IIMB had run an earlier admissions exercise for the inaugural 2026-27 cohort. Candidates who applied previously should not create a second record until the portal explains how the fresh window treats their application. If the institute is reopening or rerunning a cycle, it should state clearly whether earlier fees, scores or documents carry forward.
Prospective students should also understand what these degrees are—and are not. They are residential, quantitatively demanding undergraduate programmes, not shortened versions of the institute’s flagship postgraduate MBA. The Economics route includes mathematical and empirical work; Data Science requires sustained comfort with mathematics, programming and statistics. Business Studies is part of the interdisciplinary design, but neither degree is presented as a BBA.
Cost and campus arrangements require the same scrutiny as academic content. Applicants should check the current fee, financial-aid rules, residence requirements and delivery location on the official portal before paying the application charge. A four-year decision involves living and opportunity costs that cannot be judged from an institute brand alone.
Preparation for the admission test should begin with the published pattern and syllabus. The institute says the test is the primary filter for interview shortlisting, but the interview still carries a substantial 40 per cent in the final score. Candidates should be ready to discuss their academic interests and reasoning, not merely rehearse a generic management-school answer.
The fresh window broadens access for students who missed or could not use the earlier cycle. Its success will also depend on transparent communication about what changed. Applicants should preserve the notice dated for this round, use only the official portal and save the submitted form and payment acknowledgement. With 80 places available, administrative certainty is as important as timely preparation.
