Haryana Clears Phase 2 Metro Civil Works Package

GURUGRAM: The Haryana government has cleared the civil-works proposal for Gurugram Metro Rail Limited's Phase 2 corridor from the Millennium City Centre side toward Cyber City, clearing GMRL to float a civil package of about Rs 1,662 crore in early October, officials said.
The package covers roughly 14.5 km with 14 stations on the Sector 9 to Cyber City alignment. Plans include integrated flyover-cum-metro structures on Old Delhi Road and the Bajghera stretch, where road and rail capacity have to share the same constrained right of way. World Bank scrutiny of earlier tender drafts had already narrowed design and cost questions; state clearance was the remaining gate before bids.
GMRL expects contractor selection, construction, testing and commissioning to take years rather than months. The 2029 full-corridor target remains under pressure if award or utilities shifting slips. Officials framed Tuesday's nod as the step that lets civil bidding start, not as a claim that trains will run next year.
Stations, flyovers and what commuters should expect
Station planning on the western and northern legs has listed stops serving Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Bajghera Road, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar, Sector 23A, Sector 22, Udyog Vihar phases and Cyber City, with a spur link discussed toward Gurugram Railway Station in earlier project papers. Final bid documents will freeze names and chainages.
Old Delhi Road and Bajghera already choke with mixed traffic. Building a combined flyover and metro box there means long work zones, night casting and diversion plans that GMRL and PWD will have to publish once the contractor is on board. Residents along those roads should expect multi-year disruption even if civil work starts on schedule after the October tender.
Funding blends state equity and the World Bank-backed loan window that earlier approved roughly Rs 1,409 crore of related Phase 2 support. The Rs 1,662 crore civil figure is the construction package now cleared to tender, not the entire project cost including systems and rolling stock.
For office crowds in Cyber City and Udyog Vihar, Phase 2 is the missing north-west link that Rapid Metro and the Yellow Line do not fully cover today. Until civil award and utility shifting finish, that link stays on paper. Tuesday's clearance moves it from stalled file to live tender calendar, which is the concrete change for October.
GMRL still has to publish the detailed notice inviting tender, pre-bid meetings and the bid-submission window once the October float starts. Contractors will price elevated viaducts, stations, the flyover-cum-metro boxes and traffic diversion as one civil package. Systems, signalling and trains sit in later packages. District transport updates continue to appear through https://gurugram.gov.in/ as work phases open.
Commuters should treat early-October bidding as the start of a long build, not a soft opening date. Utility agencies for power, water, gas and telecom will need coordinated shifting along Old Delhi Road and Bajghera before pier casting accelerates. That coordination, more than the clearance itself, will decide whether 2029 remains realistic.
