BLOs Sit Today and Sunday as Gurugram Runs SIR Voter Drive

GURUGRAM: Booth-level officers will sit at designated offices today and Sunday as the district runs a two-day Special Intensive Revision camp, with Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Uttam Singh asking first-time voters and people holding incomplete-document notices to finish their paperwork by 30 August.

The camp is part of SIR Phase 2 ordered by the Election Commission of India. BLOs are to take new registrations, collect papers, close pending cases and upload records online. Anyone who turned 18 on or before 1 July 2026 and is still off the roll can apply at the local booth with age and address proof. Those who have already received BLO notices for missing documents have been told to bring the papers during the weekend window rather than wait for the revision to close.

Singh directed electoral registration officers, assistant EROs, supervisors and BLOs to work to the calendar. “Awareness and cooperation of citizens are equally important for preparing an error-free and updated voter list,” he said.

How steep the cleanup has already been is clearest in the Sohna Assembly segment. Election staff there have struck 57,300 names — mainly on transfer, double entry or death — taking the constituency from 3,03,243 electors in 2025 to 2,45,943. BLOs issued 81,174 notices for errors in records. Of those, 70,949 electors have replied and filed papers; 10,225 notices remain pending and are being served house to house.

Election kanungo Jaykumar Sharma said Sohna has 15 assistant returning officers, 30 supervisors and 292 BLOs on the SIR roster. Fresh claims for inclusion can be filed till 30 September on Form 6, with a passport photograph, age certificate and address proof. Form 7 is for deletion, Form 8 for shift or correction. The final electoral roll is due on 3 October.

The weekend camp is meant to clear that pending pile before the September close: the 10,225 unanswered notices in Sohna, and similar document gaps in other segments. It is not a fresh house-to-house census. BLOs already on the SIR roster will take papers, close files and upload them.

Singh has asked people not to treat the revision as someone else’s chore. An accurate roll, he said, is what lets every eligible resident vote. For a district that absorbs migrants every year, that means turning up with papers this weekend if a notice is already in hand, and getting 18-year-olds onto Form 6 before 30 August if they missed the earlier round.

BLOs will be at their notified locations both days. Residents unsure of their booth can check the BLO list with the tehsil or the district election office at the Mini Secretariat. The administration has not extended the 30 August cut-off for first-time inclusion tied to the 1 July age date. After that, new claims follow the slower September calendar that feeds the 3 October roll.
