Two Dead, Four Hurt in Four Gurugram Road Crashes

GURUGRAM: A traffic constable was among four people injured and two people were killed in four separate road accidents in the district between 26 and 27 August, police said, with cases now on file including Traffic Police Station-1, Manesar, a Sector 18 case and Badshahpur police station.

Constable Ankit, posted at Traffic Police Station-1, Manesar, was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the Gurugram–Delhi Expressway near the station around 8.35 pm on 26 August. His mother, Kirosta, 50, said he was waiting by the roadside for a ride to Manesar. He was taken to Fortis Hospital, Manesar. Doctors declared him unfit to give a statement. Police registered a case for rash driving and an act endangering life.

The next afternoon, 11-year-old Kanhaiya Kumar was hit by a canter near Maruti Gate No. 2 in Sector 18 around 1 pm. He had left Palam Vihar on a bicycle about 11.30 am. When he did not return, his father, Santosh Mandal, 47, went looking. A traffic constable told him a boy with a bicycle had been struck by a speeding canter. A passer-by took Kanhaiya to Manipal Hospital, Palam Vihar. He too was declared unfit to record a statement. A rash-driving case has been registered.

On the morning of 27 August, a truck hit a motorcycle from behind on Kulana–Pataudi Road near Jatauli. Jagpravesh, 27, of Gudhana village, told police he was taking his pregnant wife, Pammi, to Rama Hospital, Pataudi, for a check-up. His mother, Rekha, was on the pillion. Around 9 am the truck struck them. Jagpravesh noted the registration before the driver fled. Rekha died of a head injury at the spot. Jagpravesh and Pammi were taken to hospital with injuries. A case has been registered.

Hours earlier, shortly after midnight on 27 August, Bhim Singh of Milkpur village was hit by an unidentified vehicle on SPR Road. His cousin Suresh Kumar said Bhim had been dropped near the Discovery L-1 liquor vend around 12.10 am after a party. His vehicle was parked across the road near Anmol Banquet Hall. As he crossed, a vehicle heading toward the Gurugram–Delhi Expressway hit him. He was taken to Medanta, where doctors declared him dead. Police identified him through relatives and sent the body for post-mortem. Badshahpur police have registered a case of causing death by a rash or negligent act.

In all four files, at least one vehicle either fled or has not been named. Police said they are pulling CCTV on the expressway, Maruti Gate, Jatauli and SPR Road. The Jatauli truck is the only one whose number is already with investigators, taken down by the son who survived.

The four crashes sit on the same 36-hour window as the Moulsari earthmover death, which is a separate DLF Phase 3 case. Rekha died at Jatauli; Bhim was declared dead at Medanta; Ankit and Kanhaiya were unfit to give statements at Fortis Manesar and Manipal Palam Vihar. Police said they are using CCTV and the one known truck number to trace the drivers who ran.
