OpenAI is bringing its GPT-6 generation to everyone who uses ChatGPT, not just paying customers. In an announcement dated 7 October 2026, the company said a new GPT-6 model with a feature it calls Intelligent UI starts rolling out globally that day to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, and to Free and Go users from the following day.

The first GPT-6 models went to paid customers last month. OpenAI says this release is built for the more than 1.2 billion people who use ChatGPT each week, which makes it one of the widest model changes the service has made.

Which model you get

Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise accounts get GPT-6 Sol. Free and Go accounts get GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI describes both as tuned for everyday conversation. The change applies to the Chat tab only, and the models behind ChatGPT's Work and Codex features are not part of this release. Enterprise access depends on the workplace admin's settings.

Go is OpenAI's low-cost paid plan. Its help pages say Go is available in every country where ChatGPT is offered, with unlimited everyday text chats and higher limits than the Free plan for image generation, file uploads and data analysis.

What Intelligent UI does

The most visible change is how answers look. OpenAI says GPT-6 can build replies out of text, visuals and interactive pieces such as tappable buttons, forms and charts, and picks the format to suit the question. A comparison might appear side by side, an explanation might become a diagram you can tap through, and a plain question can still get a plain answer.

It can also build a small tool when asked, such as a bill splitter for dinner with friends, a simple calculator or a game, inside the conversation. OpenAI says the interface appears bit by bit as the model writes, using a library of ready-made components and a compiler, so users do not wait for the whole reply.

OpenAI's own examples are domestic: a Sunday roast plan with the cooking times laid out next to the recipe, or a road trip with the stops shown on a map and notes on which ones are worth a detour. The company admits there is still work to do on the model's design judgment and on what kinds of interface it can create.

Answers that start sooner

The second change is speed. ChatGPT can now begin answering while it is still working through a problem, adding to the reply in stages. OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44 per cent sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant for questions that need a web search, and that in its internal tests GPT-6 got the key part of hard questions right more often than GPT-5.6. These are the company's own figures and have not been independently tested.

For heavier reasoning, OpenAI says GPT-6 Extra High can start answering in the same time as GPT-5.6 Medium while scoring better overall than GPT-5.6 Extra High on its internal set of everyday agent tasks. It also says GPT-6 is better at deciding when it needs to search the web and at finding sources that support its answer.

Safety claims

OpenAI says GPT-6 is harder to talk out of its safety training than GPT-5.6 Sol and is better at saying when it lacks the information or tools to answer. It says safety training was updated using lessons from real-world use around cyberattacks, biological threats and violence, with details in a published system card.

What Indian users should know

Because the rollout is staged, accounts will not all switch on the same day. If the app still shows an older model, updating it and checking again later is the simplest fix. The announcement does not mention any change in prices for the Free, Go or Plus plans.

Richer answers do not make an AI tool an authority. For anything involving money, health, exams or legal deadlines, the official source should have the final word. India's own AI build-out, such as the IBM and Yotta sovereign AI platform, and assistive features like Gemini Live's guided vision show how quickly these tools are spreading into daily life.
