GATE 2027 Registration Opens With DigiLocker Link and Revised Deadlines

Registration for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2027 opened on Wednesday evening through the official online application system, ending a wait created by revisions to the earlier start date and giving candidates until 27 September to apply without a late fee.

The extended application period, carrying an additional charge, runs until 5 October. The correction window is scheduled for 14 to 21 October, city information is due on 4 January, and the examination is planned for 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027. The result date listed in the current schedule is 19 March.

For the regular period, the application fee is Rs 1,000 per paper for women and SC, ST and PwD applicants, and Rs 2,000 per paper for other applicants, including foreign nationals. During the extended period, the corresponding amounts are Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,500.

A new application stage, not a repeat of the old calendar

Dalimss News had earlier reported the preparatory schedule then displayed on the GATE portal. Wednesday’s development is different: the live application link has now been activated and the operative dates have changed. Candidates should discard saved screenshots of the earlier calendar and use the schedule on the current portal.

Indian applicants are being directed to use a verified DigiLocker account. Before beginning the form, they should check that the name and date of birth in DigiLocker match the identity and academic documents they intend to upload. A mismatch is easier to correct before payment than during scrutiny.

Applicants should create the account themselves and keep control of their login, password and one-time codes. A cybercafé can help format an image, but it should not become the owner of the candidate’s DigiLocker or application credentials.

Paper choice needs an admission plan

GATE is conducted for admission to master’s, direct doctoral and doctoral programmes in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts and humanities, and its scores are also used by some public-sector employers. Qualifying does not guarantee a seat, scholarship or job; every receiving institution applies its own programme rules and cutoffs.

That is why candidates should choose a paper by working backwards from the programmes or employers they are targeting. The application system may allow a paper or a permitted two-paper combination that a particular department does not accept. The brochure’s paper-combination table and the admission rules of the intended institution are separate checks.

The current schedule lists a computer-based examination with 65 questions carrying 100 marks. Question types include multiple-choice, multiple-select and numerical-answer questions. General Aptitude accounts for 15 marks; the remaining structure depends on the chosen paper, with Engineering Mathematics forming part of several papers.

Photograph and document discipline

The reported photograph specification calls for a recent front-facing image on a white background, in JPEG or JPG format, with the face occupying roughly 60 to 70 per cent of the frame. Candidates should use the exact size and file limits displayed inside the live form. An edited scan from an old identity card is a poor substitute for a compliant recent photograph.

Accepted identity records include Aadhaar or virtual ID, passport, PAN, voter ID, driving licence and other valid government identification as specified. Category and disability claims require the prescribed supporting record. Applicants should not select a concession first and hope to arrange proof later.

After payment, the application should show a completed status and generate a confirmation record. A bank debit alone is not proof that the form was submitted. Candidates should download the confirmation page and check the paper, category, photograph, signature, cities and contact details.

The correction window is a safety net, not an editing plan. Some changes may attract a fee or may not be permitted. Submitting early also gives the helpdesk time to resolve a DigiLocker, payment or upload problem before the portal is crowded.

The opening of GOAPS is the point at which preparation becomes an official record. Candidates should take advantage of the full window, but not confuse a distant deadline with a reason to delay. A careful form completed this week is more useful than a hurried one on 27 September.
