Five-Year-Old Dies After Auto Fall, Truck Hit

GURUGRAM: A five-year-old girl died after she fell from a moving autorickshaw and was allegedly run over by a truck near Rajesh Pilot Chowk on Golf Course Extension Road on Sunday, police said on Monday.

The child, identified as Priyal, was travelling with her mother when the incident occurred in the late afternoon. Police said the family was moving from the Sector 56 side towards the Sector 65 belt. A senior officer said the autorickshaw was overloaded and the mother was holding the child when a jerk and sudden movement inside the vehicle made her lose her grip. Priyal slipped out onto the road. A truck coming behind then ran over her, the officer said.

According to the police account, the truck slowed after the impact and then sped away once the driver realised the child was dead. Passers-by helped the family rush Priyal to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The body was later taken for postmortem, and the remains were handed to the family after the autopsy on Monday. Gurugram police said relatives of the deceased had filed a complaint.

Golf Course Extension Road carries mixed traffic of office cars, school routes, mall-bound trips and heavy vehicles cutting across sector junctions. Rajesh Pilot Chowk is one of the points where that mix tightens. When a child falls from a smaller vehicle into that stream, seconds decide survival. Police statements on overload and loss of grip inside the autorickshaw will form part of the negligence examination alongside the truck's alleged flight.

For now, the case rests on allegation and evidence collection. The driver has not been publicly identified. The FIR frames rash driving and death by negligence. CCTV review is the main lead named by the police spokesperson. Until a vehicle number and a suspect are fixed, the city's question remains practical and grim: how a child could fall onto a busy extension-road junction and the truck that hit her could still leave the frame.

Officers visiting the spot and recording the family's statement have the first pieces. Matching those pieces to a registration plate is the next step. Gurugram's recent run of fatal road cases has kept traffic policing under public pressure. This Sunday crash adds another fatality, vehicle load and a fleeing driver are all on the table for the Sector 65 team.

An FIR was registered on the mother's complaint against the unidentified truck driver under Sections 106 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Sector 65 police station. Those sections deal with causing death by negligence and rash driving. Turan said CCTV footage from the stretch was being scanned to identify the truck and trace its driver. No arrest had been confirmed in the first police briefings on Monday.

Separate local accounts of the same evening describe the family as having come into the city for the child's birthday plans, a detail that deepens the cruelty of the crash without changing the legal angle: an unidentified heavy vehicle left the scene, and investigators are working from video and witness leads.
