Varanasi: Panic gripped the Cantt area of Varanasi on April 11 after a firing incident was reported inside Hotel West Inn, allegedly following a dispute between a couple.

According to initial reports, the man and woman were staying together in a hotel room when an argument broke out between them. The situation quickly escalated, and the man allegedly opened fire inside the closed room. Sources indicate that two to three rounds were fired, creating panic among hotel staff and guests.

The woman sustained serious injuries during the incident. One bullet reportedly hit her waist, while another passed dangerously close to her face and neck. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. Doctors have confirmed that her condition is now stable and she is out of danger.

Following the incident, hotel staff alerted the police, who promptly reached the scene and took the accused into custody. The weapon used in the firing is also being examined as part of the investigation.

The case initially drew attention after reports surfaced suggesting that local police had denied any such incident. However, the matter was later confirmed based on hospital records and supporting evidence.

Police officials stated that a detailed investigation is underway, focusing on the nature of the relationship between the two and the circumstances that led to the firing. Authorities have indicated that legal action will proceed once a formal complaint is filed.

The incident has once again raised concerns over safety and monitoring in hotels across Varanasi, particularly in sensitive areas.
