Family Allegedly Assaulted by Group of Men in Delhi's Preet Vihar

New Delhi: A shocking instance of road rage unfolded in East Delhi’s busy Preet Vihar area when a family was allegedly assaulted by a group of men following a dispute over a traffic violation. The violent confrontation, which began as a verbal argument over wrong-side driving, quickly escalated into physical violence, causing significant panic among residents and bystanders.
Traffic Violation Sparks Confrontation
The incident took place during the evening hours when a local family was travelling through a commercial stretch in Preet Vihar. Eyewitnesses said a group of men riding a vehicle from the opposite direction—completely flouting traffic norms by driving on the wrong side of the road—narrowly missed colliding with the family's vehicle.
When the family objected to the reckless and hazardous driving, the men reportedly stopped their vehicle, blocking the family's path. What began as a brief verbal reprimand from the family quickly turned hostile as the group of men began aggressively shouting and hurling verbal abuses.
Verbal Spat Turns Into Physical Assault
As the argument intensified, the confrontation took a violent turn. The group of men allegedly descended upon the family's vehicle, dragging out the male members and launching a physical assault. Even as female family members tried to intervene and de-escalate the situation, the attackers reportedly continued their aggressive behavior, assaulting them and damaging the family’s vehicle in the process.
The sudden outburst of violence on a busy public road triggered immediate panic, drawing a massive crowd of shoppers and local residents to the scene. Seeing a large crowd assemble and realize that the police had been alerted, the assailants quickly fled the spot, leaving the distressed family behind.
Social Media Outrage and Police Investigation
The matter quickly caught public attention after local accounts and witnesses highlighted the ordeal on social media platforms. Users widely shared details of the incident, expressing grave concerns over the rising intolerance and audacity of traffic violators on the capital's roads. Many have tagged senior Delhi Police officials, demanding swift identification and strict legal action against the perpetrators to curb such lawlessness.
Local police personnel from the Preet Vihar police station arrived at the spot shortly after receiving information about the scuffle. Authorities have recorded the initial statements of the victims and are reportedly scanning closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from nearby commercial establishments and traffic junctions to identify the registration details of the suspects' vehicle and map out their escape route.
