The Economic Offences Wing unit in Varanasi has arrested Jogendra alias Yogendra Prasad near JCs Chauraha in Jaunpur in a long-running case that alleges about Rs 1.50 crore was embezzled from government loan schemes through forged beneficiary documents.
Investigators say the accused, a resident of Premapur village under Gaurabadshahpur police station, acted as an agent and guarantor in loans processed around 2012-13 through the Mandi Samiti, Chaukia branch of Kashi Gomti Samyut Gramin Bank. According to the agency, papers were prepared in the names of beneficiaries, funds were released under government schemes, and the money was later diverted. The roles of the then branch manager and the agent remain under examination.
The original FIR was registered in 2015 at Line Bazar police station in Jaunpur on a complaint by the then bank manager, Ram Kripal Maurya. After the local police inquiry, the state government transferred the matter to the Economic Offences Wing in Varanasi. EOW teams spent years on bank records, loan files and beneficiary paperwork before focusing on Jogendra's alleged role.
Officers say he ran an agency named Chandni Solar Urja at Yashwant Katra near JCs Chauraha and later shifted residence to Ibrahimabad in Jaunpur. Acting on information about his location, the team picked him up near the chauraha and produced him before a Varanasi court, which sent him to judicial custody.
Cases of this age often move slowly because documents are scattered across bank branches, guarantor files and scheme offices. Arrest of one alleged middleman does not by itself close the file. EOW has said it is still tracing how funds moved, who else signed or attested papers, and whether other agents sat in the chain. No court has yet delivered a final finding of guilt; the public facts at this stage are the arrest, the custody order, the 2015 FIR background, and the alleged Rs 1.50 crore figure attached to the schemes.
For readers in Varanasi, the story sits with the EOW desk that handles economic crime referred from the surrounding districts. Jaunpur's loan file becoming a Varanasi custody order is routine for that jurisdiction. What changes for the public is a named arrest after years of paper work. Further action, the wing said, will follow the evidence still being collected. Government loan schemes routed through regional rural banks have long been a soft target for forged know-your-customer papers and proxy guarantors. EOW's decision to keep digging after the 2015 FIR shows how slowly such files move when the original branch staff have transferred and borrowers listed on paper cannot be found. Friday's arrest puts one alleged agent in judicial custody; the paper trail on the Rs 1.50 crore figure still has to be proved count by count in court. Businesses around JCs Chauraha will recognise the Chandni Solar Urja name from the local market belt, but recognition is not conviction.
