DGP Flags 15-20 Overseas Gangsters, Opens New PS

GURUGRAM: Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Singhal on Monday said the force has identified 15 to 20 gangsters who operate from abroad and direct criminal activity in the state remotely, speaking at the inauguration of the new Sector 17/18 police station building.

Singhal said these suspects use technology and overseas networks to threaten people, run extortion rackets and coordinate crimes without being present in Haryana. "We have just deported the 25th gangster in last two years," he said, adding that a Kurukshetra resident was brought back from Malaysia two days earlier.

A city officer said Gurugram police have begun extradition steps against the wife of gangster Deepak Nandal from Dubai and recently initiated a Red Corner Notice. She is alleged to have provided logistics and financial support to gang members for crimes in Haryana. Nandal is wanted in cases including murder, extortion, Arms Act offences and attempt to murder.

Singhal said police have prepared a detailed SOP, built multiple apps and strengthened CCTV monitoring against such threats. Asked about extortion numbers, he said he did not have exact figures but estimated only a small rise of two to four cases and claimed the situation was largely under control.

ATS, cyber tools and staffing numbers

An anti-terrorism squad has been opened in the city, and the state government has created seven special operation groups for terrorism-related work, the DGP said. On cyber fraud, he called the crime "borderless" and pointed to the Abhedya app, a dual-OTP system, the 112 emergency line and the 1930 cybercrime helpline.

Citing a Karnal jeweller who lost about Rs 1 crore through a WhatsApp hack, Singhal said the victim contacted 1930 within five minutes and police claimed the full amount was saved. On road rage, he said high-speed group riding by youths remains a city problem but that most such cases had been brought down, with action continuing on recent stray incidents. Narcotics in clubs and bars, he said, remain a major challenge because of Haryana's proximity to Punjab, and an anti-narcotic task force led by an ADGP is on the job.

Singhal also listed 33 women police stations, the Durga Shakti Rapid Action Force and trip-monitoring tools for women travelling alone, claiming crime against women fell by at least 20 percent in the past year. On vacancies, he put the gap at about 26 percent of the force. After roughly 5,500 recruitments last year, another 5,500 appointments are under way, with about 4,000 more expected in November and 5,000 to 6,000 by next March.

The new Sector 17/18 station building was the backdrop for the remarks, signalling both a local infrastructure upgrade and a statewide pitch on overseas-directed crime. Public police portals remain at https://haryanapolice.gov.in/.
