Delhi Man Held in Golf Course Road Rage Case

GURUGRAM: Police have arrested 32-year-old Delhi resident Swayam Sharma in connection with an alleged road-rage incident near AIT Chowk on Golf Course Road on 27 August, in which a Scorpio SUV is accused of abusing a mother and daughter and damaging their car, while Commissioner Sibash Kabiraj has ordered a departmental inquiry into the nearly month-long delay in registering the FIR.
Sharma, from Aya Nagar, was arrested on 29 September after discharge from hospital treatment for dengue, police said. The complaint alleges he rammed the complainants' car and smashed a headlight with a rod. Those acts remain allegations. This file is separate from the fatal Thar crash on Golf Course Road near DLF Camellias that is already on the public record under a different station.
ACP (Sadar) Dharambir Singh's intervention and the Commissioner's inquiry target the Sector 56 station house officer and the first investigating officer over why the FIR took close to a month after the August complaint path began. The inquiry is administrative; it does not itself decide the criminal case against Sharma.
FIR delay inquiry and case status
Road-rage complaints on Golf Course Road often stall when first responders treat damage as a civil spat. Here, the Commissioner's office has put the delay itself under departmental scrutiny, a signal that delayed FIRs on high-visibility corridors will not pass without paperwork answers.
Sector 56 police now hold both the criminal investigation against the arrested accused and the parallel administrative questions about earlier handling. Police have not released a finding that the SHO or IO acted in bad faith; the inquiry is to establish facts. Sharma remains an accused in custody process, not a convict.
Complainants in the August incident described verbal abuse and vehicle damage near AIT Chowk. Medical notes for the mother and daughter, if any beyond shock, belong in the case diary rather than in speculative colour. The public arrest note emphasises identification, arrest after hospital discharge, and the inquiry order.
Drivers on Golf Course Road should not confuse this Scorpio case with other SUV crashes reported the same month. Different vehicles, dates and stations apply. For this file, the fresh facts are Sharma's arrest, the AIT Chowk August allegation, and a live departmental probe into why the FIR lagged. Court and inquiry outcomes will come later.
Golf Course Road carries heavy evening traffic past AIT Chowk, with frequent lane changes and short tempers. Police say rod damage to a headlight, if proved, lifts the matter above a simple bumper scrape into a cognisable offence path. The complainants' account of abuse is part of the FIR narrative and will be tested in statements.
Departmental inquiry timelines in Haryana police usually run on a fixed reporting calendar once the Commissioner orders them. Findings against the SHO or IO, if any, will be separate from Sharma's criminal trial. Readers should wait for both processes rather than treating arrest day as the end of either story.
