CP Orders Probe Against SHO Over FIR Delay

GURUGRAM: Police Commissioner Sibash Kabiraj has ordered a departmental enquiry against the Sector 56 station house officer over an alleged delay in registering a first information report on a 28-year-old woman's road-rage complaint from Golf Course Road.

The complaint relates to an incident on 27 August around 10 pm near AIT Chowk. Khushboo Verma alleged that a Scorpio hit her grey Maruti Swift from the left after both vehicles moved off a signal, that the driver abused her and her 51-year-old mother Pooja Verma, then smashed the Swift's headlight with an iron or steel rod and drove away.

She called the police control room. A PCR team sent her to Sector 56 police station, where she filed a complaint the same night. Investigating officer Narender was assigned. The FIR was registered on 22 September, after repeated follow-ups by the mother and daughter and after they approached ACP (Sadar) Dharambir Singh. On 21 September, Pooja Verma submitted another complaint saying the officer had stopped taking their calls even after dashcam footage was handed over.

Kabiraj said two special teams now work on tracing those involved in road-rage cases in the city, and that he has opened a DE against the SHO for the alleged delay in FIR registration while the allegations are probed.

Accused named; hospital watch before arrest

Police have identified the Scorpio driver as Swayam, a resident of Aya Nagar in Delhi. He has been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 125 (rash or negligent act endangering human life or personal safety), 281 (rash driving) and 324(4) (mischief causing damage to property).

Officers said the accused was admitted to a private hospital for dengue treatment, that a team was posted there, and that he would be arrested after discharge. Early explanations to the complainant had included the investigating officer being on leave around Raksha Bandhan and difficulty tracing a vehicle with a temporary registration number.

The case sits in a stretch of the city where evening road-rage complaints are common and where families often allege slow paperwork even when video exists. The commissioner's DE order puts the station's handling of the Aug 27 complaint under formal scrutiny, separate from the criminal case against the named driver.
