CM Yogi Surveys Flood-Hit Varanasi, Orders Rs 4 Lakh Aid Within 24 Hours

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected parts of Varanasi on Saturday, 5 September 2026, and later stopped at the relief camp at Vidya Vihar Inter College in Salarpur. From the camp he directed that eligible affected families receive assistance of Rs 4 lakh within 24 hours. The instruction, as carried in the Chief Minister’s remarks that day, covered categories cited for house collapse, lightning and snakebite cases among the eligible set.

In the same set of remarks the Chief Minister put the district’s immediate flood ledger in public numbers. Five hundred and sixty-seven families across 16 wards were described as affected. Forty-eight boats were cited in the response grid. Crops of 1,131 farmers were listed as damaged. Those figures are attributed here as the Chief Minister’s and administration’s Saturday framing, not as an independent desk audit of every ward file.

Relief kits were distributed at the Salarpur camp. Children’s kits of 26 items were among the packages named in the visit readout. The Chief Minister also spoke of farmer crop compensation and Ayushman cards for eligible households. After the waters recede, he directed sanitisation and disinfectant spraying in the flooded pockets so waterborne illness does not follow the flood line. That sanitisation line is folded into this visit story; it is not being spun as a second standalone civic package.

Varuna backflow was cited in the Saturday framing as a reason low-lying colonies stayed waterlogged even where the main Ganga channel was the public focus. The aerial pass and the Salarpur ground stop were meant to cover both the river edge and the inland inundation that does not show on a single CWC stamp.

Senior district and commissionerate officers were present for the visit. Divisional Commissioner S. Rajlingam, District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar, Commissioner of Police Mohit Agarwal, Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal, Mayor Ashok Tiwari and Chief Development Officer Prakhar Kumar were among those listed with the Chief Minister’s party. Labour Minister Anil Rajbhar and other ministers and local MLAs also figured in the Saturday attendance list carried with the visit.

The Rs 4 lakh-within-24-hours line is the sharpest operational order from the camp. Eligibility, as framed that day, sits on the house-collapse, lightning and snakebite categories the Chief Minister named. This copy does not invent a wider cheque for every waterlogged household. It reports the directive as spoken and leaves disbursement proof to the tehsil and disaster desks that must move the files.

Farmer compensation for the 1,131 crop-loss cases and Ayushman enrolment for eligible families sit beside that cash order. Forty-eight boats remain the water-response number the Chief Minister put on Saturday’s ledger. Sixteen wards and 567 families are the household footprint he used. Those four numbers — 567, 16, 48, 1,131 — are the spine of the visit story once the aerial and Salarpur chronology is set.

Saturday’s survey does not close the flood file. It sets a 24-hour money clock for eligible cases, a farmer-compensation track, a health-card push, and a post-recede spray order. Until the tehsils show disbursement and the lanes show disinfectant after the water falls, the Chief Minister’s Varanasi visit remains an order day, not a completion notice.
