CBSE asks schools to share revised National Scholarship Portal framework for 2026-27

NEW DELHI: CBSE has asked every affiliated school to circulate the revised National Scholarship Portal framework that applies from academic year 2026-27. The public notice on the Board website refers to Cabinet Secretariat Office Memorandum No. D-42011/01/2025-DBT and says the scholarship workflow on NSP has been revised with effect from AY 2026-27. Heads of schools are requested to share the enclosed information with eligible students, parents and other stakeholders.

The notice package includes the Cabinet Secretariat memorandum and an annexure describing the modified workflow. That annexure is the practical guide for Institute Nodal Officers and students who will file scholarship claims this year, not a fresh list of schemes. Schools should download the full PDF from cbse.gov.in rather than forwarding only the covering note.

What the revised workflow changes for applicants

At application submission and editing, details furnished in the first application are retained and reused for later applications. For subsequent claims, applicants mainly fill scheme-specific fields and upload related documents. If an application is marked defective, only scheme-specific details can be edited; changing general, academic, institute or course details requires withdrawing submitted applications first.

At L1 verification, tuition fee, admission fee and other non-refundable fee components updated during verification of the first application are auto-populated in later applications. All applications of the same student, with status, are visible to the Institute Nodal Officer. When an application is marked defective, deficiencies are split into scheme-specific issues and general or academic issues.

At L2 verification, every application filed by a student is visible together to the concerned L2 nodal officers. That is meant to keep decisions consistent when the same student applies under both a welfare-based scheme and a merit-based scheme. If deficiencies touch general or academic details, other applications of that student are automatically placed under a Red Flag category.

What schools should do this week

Principals should forward the CBSE public notice and annexure to class teachers and the scholarship desk, brief parents of Classes IX to XII who usually apply on NSP, and ensure the Institute Nodal Officer understands the new edit and defect rules before peak filing. Students should not assume last year's form-filling habits still apply, especially when correcting personal or course data after a defect mark.

The Board notice does not itself announce a new scholarship amount or a closing date for a named scheme. Those dates continue to come from the National Scholarship Portal and the scheme guidelines of the concerned Ministry or Department. What CBSE has done is make the revised national framework mandatory reading for affiliated schools so that eligible students are not tripped by workflow changes mid-application.

Keep the PDF on the school notice board and website, and ask the INO to test login visibility of multiple applications for a single student before the first bulk filing of 2026-27. Clear communication now will reduce defective applications later in the verification chain. Parents helping students with more than one scheme claim should also read the Red Flag rule so they do not reopen general details casually after L1 remarks.
