CBSE reopens CTET till 1 Sep; 6 Sep exam off

Sunday, 6 September 2026, is no longer the CTET date. The Central Board of Secondary Education’s Director (CTET) has taken that calendar off the board and reopened the 22nd-edition application form from 25 August to 1 September. Anyone still treating 6 September as a hard exam day is working off a notice that has been overtaken.

The fresh public notice is F. No. CBSE/CTET/Sept./2026/e-73233, dated 25 August 2026. It sits on ctet.nic.in as “Public Notice: re opening of Online Applications for the 22nd Edition of CTET” and on the CBSE homepage as the lead Latest @ CBSE item of 25/08/2026. The ticker on the CTET site is blunt: Apply : CTET SEP 2026 (Date Extended till 01.09.2026). The login itself is the NIC ExamSysCTET window linked from both sites.

What the 25 August notice actually changes

Twenty-one editions of CTET have already been held. The 21st result was declared on 30 March 2026. For the 22nd edition, CBSE’s earlier public notice of 08.05.2026 had opened applications from 11.05.2026 to 10.06.2026 (23:59) and fixed the test for 06 September 2026 (Sunday), Paper-I and Paper-II. That May notice also left a contingency: if numbers rose, the Board might run a sitting on 05 September 2026 (Saturday) as well. The 25 August notice does not keep either of those dates. It says the revised date of the 22nd edition will be announced after the portal closes.

The reason given is a Supreme Court judgment in Review Petition (Civil) Diary No. 53434/2025 in Civil Appeal No. 1385/2025. The Board’s wording is that the Court emphasised a reasonable opportunity for eligible teachers to meet the statutory TET requirement. In that light, and “in the larger interest of candidates,” CBSE is giving another window to everyone who missed May–June. Candidates who have already completed and submitted an application need not apply again. That line is in bold on the notice. Do not pay a second fee for a form that already went through.

The reopen is short: 25.08.2026 to 01.09.2026. The May correction window (15–18 June 2026) is long closed. This desk is not treating the new days as a second correction cycle. Use them to file a first application if you never did.

What still stands from the May notice — and what does not

The May public notice remains useful for structure, not for the exam Sunday. It said the test would be held in twenty-seven languages in 132 cities. Applicants do not pick a city on the form; CBSE allots cities at random, and a request to change the allotted city is not accepted. Admit cards, in that earlier calendar, were to be downloaded two days before the examination. Result was listed as tentatively by the end of October 2026. Once a revised date is notified, those satellite clocks should be read again on ctet.nic.in rather than assumed to have rolled forward unchanged.

Who should be on the portal this week

In-service teachers who still need a TET, and other eligible candidates who never finished the May–June form, are the people this reopen is written for. If your application already sits in the system, leave it alone and wait for the revised date. If you are starting now, use the official Apply/Login link for CTET SEP 2026, finish fee payment inside the 1 September close, and keep the acknowledgement. Do not rely on a coaching-centre screenshot of the old 6 September date sheet.
