Bihar board says viral Class 9 exam question is AI-generated fake, alerts cyber police

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has dismissed a viral image of a Class 9 social science question paper as fake, saying the question that set it off was produced with artificial intelligence. The board has asked cyber crime police and district police to track down whoever made it.

In a post on its official X account at 11.17 am on 25 September, the board put two photographs of the same page side by side, one stamped "Fake" and the other "Original". It said the question printed at serial number 37 in the "Fake" image was AI-generated, and that the aim appeared to be to create confusion about how the examination was conducted and to damage the board's image.

One question swapped, the rest left alone

The two images show page 17 of a bilingual Hindi and English paper marked Class IX, with the code BH(HF)-IX/26/7032 printed at the bottom. The post that went viral described it as the Bihar Board Class 9 social science half-yearly examination paper of 2026, held on 22 September.

In the board's "Original" copy, question 37 asks: "How many main factors of production are there?" The options are two, three, four and five. It fits the questions on either side of it. Question 36 asks in which country universal adult franchise was first introduced, and question 38 asks what kind of factor of production land is.

The "Fake" copy is identical except for question 37. In its place is a nonsense question asking what a lehenga is lifted with, and the options given are a phone, a remote, a JCB and "none of these". The viral post used it to mock the standard of education.

Because the surrounding questions, the page number and the paper code are all untouched, the altered page can pass for the real one at a glance.

Police asked to find the source

The board said it has informed the Cyber Crime police and the district police so that the person who generated the fake question paper can be identified and strict legal action taken. Its post did not say whether a formal case has been registered, or in which district.

It also asked people not to forward the image and to delete it from their social media pages.

The board is not the first exam body this year to warn about doctored papers. The National Testing Agency, which conducts NEET (UG), put out a public notice of its own on fake, altered or AI-generated NEET (UG) 2026 documents.

What students and parents can do

A photograph of a question paper on social media is not proof of anything, even when the page number and paper code look right. Before sharing an alarming exam claim, students and parents in Bihar can check the board's official website, biharboardonline.bihar.gov.in, and its verified X handle, @officialbseb, where the board has been posting its clarifications and notices.

STET 2026 dummy admit card out

In a separate update on 26 September, the board said the dummy admit card for the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) 2026 has been released. Candidates can log in with their user ID and password at stetregistration.cbrt.co.in, download it and check the details printed on it.

Mistakes can be corrected online until 30 September 2026. The board said that if a candidate changes their reserved category details and this results in an additional examination fee, that fee must also be paid online by 30 September.
