BHU Sir Sunderlal Hospital to Get Massive Makeover: New OPD & World-Class Facilities!

VARANASI: In a major relief for patients across Purvanchal, the Sir Sunderlal Hospital at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is set to undergo a massive transformation. Following a directive from the Union Ministry of Health, the hospital administration has initiated a master plan to construct a new OPD Block and upgrade infrastructure to international standards.
The Crisis: Known as the "AIIMS of Purvanchal," the hospital sees a daily footfall of over 7,000 patients from UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Nepal.
The Struggle: Patients like 55-year-old Ramsoorat Pandey from Ballia report arriving at 5:00 AM to stand in line, only to see a doctor by evening due to massive overcrowding.
The New Plan: IMS-BHU Director Prof. SN Sankhwar confirmed the roadmap involves:
New Infrastructure: A dedicated new OPD block to de-congest the current facility. The University Construction Department has begun working on the design.
Digitization: Complete digitization of patient records to reduce paperwork and waiting time.
Staffing: To tackle the shortage of specialists and paramedical staff, the administration is planning salary hikes to attract top talent.
Innovation: Collaboration with IIT-BHU to patent and use indigenously developed medical devices.
