Gulabi Meenakari Rakhis from Banaras Draw Orders from the US, Australia and Spain

Silver rakhis in gulabi meenakari from Banaras are on the counter at ₹1,500 to ₹10,000 this week, with NRI orders logged from California, Florida, Australia and Spain ahead of Raksha Bandhan on 28 August 2026. Traders putting a figure on that pink-enamel rakhi line have called the seasonal business about ₹10 crore. That is the meenakari-rakhi number on this record, not a larger export tally.

National awardee and master artisan Kunj Bihari Singh has described the workshop calendar behind those pieces. For the last five years, he said, artisans have begun Raksha Bandhan work a month ahead. A fine design takes five to six hours. The silver rakhi is made first; the carving follows. That sequence — month of lead time, hours per fine piece, silver then nakkashi — is the craft explanation attached to his name. No piece-count from his bench is published in the briefing used here.

Gold is a parallel festive line in the same market, not a substitute for the enamel story. A 300-milligram, nine-carat gold rakhi is listed at ₹3,500 to ₹4,000. Jitendra Seth, former chair of the Varanasi Swarnkar Vyapar Mandal, has said rakhis have come into the sarafa market in different weights and designs. The lightest silver rakhi he named is five grams at ₹1,500. The heaviest is 100 grams at ₹20,000 to ₹25,000.

Those silver weight bands sit beside, and partly overlap, the gulabi meenakari price band of ₹1,500 to ₹10,000. The five-gram silver ticket and the bottom meenakari ticket are the same rupee figure; they are not the same object unless a seller says so. Seth’s gram-and-price list is a sarafa statement; the ₹1,500–₹10,000 meenakari range is the enamel-rakhi range.

Satyanarayan Seth, state president of the Uttar Pradesh Swarnkar Sangh, has put this season’s gold-and-silver rakhi trade at ₹8–10 crore. That is a combined gold-and-silver figure for the season, not a second count of gulabi meenakari exports. Traders’ about-₹10-crore line is specific to gulabi meenakari rakhis. The two numbers are close and must not be added together, and neither is a customs-certified shipment total.

NRI demand is the overseas peg in the same briefing: California, Florida, Australia and Spain. Those geographies are named. Volumes per country are not. Gulabi meenakari is Banaras’s pink enamel work, long sold as jewellery and ritual metal; the rakhi cut is the seasonal product now travelling on those NRI orders. That craft identity explains why the pink enamel is treated as a Banaras line. It does not authorise an extra crore figure.

Sarafa counters this week are therefore running three overlapping festive products: enamel silver rakhis in the ₹1,500–₹10,000 band, plain-weight silver rakhis from five grams to 100 grams, and the small nine-carat gold rakhi at ₹3,500–₹4,000. Singh’s month-ahead workshop, Seth’s gram ladder, and Satyanarayan Seth’s ₹8–10 crore gold-and-silver season are the named-source spine. Traders’ about-₹10-crore meenakari-rakhi season is the fourth sourced number. Nothing above those figures is used here.

Raksha Bandhan is on Friday. The export-and-counter story as of the 26 August market briefing is that Banarasi gulabi meenakari rakhis are already moving on NRI orders from the United States, Australia and Spain, at the published price band, against a sourced seasonal meenakari-rakhi business of about ₹10 crore and a sourced gold-and-silver rakhi season of ₹8–10 crore — two figures, kept apart.
