In a major development for Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure, the journey between two of India’s most iconic spiritual hubs—Ayodhya and Varanasi—is set to become faster and smoother. The proposed six-lane, high-speed, access-controlled expressway is officially moving forward, promising to slash travel time from the current 4-5 hours to a mere two hours.

Bridging Heritage with Speed This ambitious 200 km corridor is designed not just for speed but for connectivity. By reducing the physical distance between the cities by nearly 50 km, the expressway will serve as a vital link for millions of pilgrims, tourists, and families travelling between the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi.

Current Status: What’s Happening Now? As of January 2026, the project has entered a critical planning phase:

NHAI Action: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued tenders for the Detailed Project Report (DPR).

Consultants: The process to select a consultant is currently underway.

Timeline: The DPR is expected to take approximately 18 months to complete. While actual construction will follow this phase, the groundwork is effectively being laid today.

The Route Map The expressway is planned to integrate seamlessly with the region's existing and upcoming road networks. The route will:

Start: At Rampur Halwara.

Pass Through: Dasharath Samadhi.

Integrate: With the Purvanchal Expressway.

Link: Further connectivity to Prayagraj and Chitrakoot.

A Hub of Development This project is part of a larger vision to transform regional infrastructure. It complements the upcoming 67 km Ayodhya Ring Road, a ₹2,500 crore project slated for completion by 2027. Together, these developments will significantly improve access to nearby districts like Gonda and Basti, easing congestion and unlocking economic growth for the entire Purvanchal region.

For the DALIMSS community, this signifies a future of safer, faster, and more efficient travel, bringing the cultural heritage of Uttar Pradesh closer than ever before.
