Alleged Tinder Dating Scam Near Sigra Raises Concern in Varanasi

Varanasi has witnessed an alarming case of an alleged dating-related fraud, reportedly operating from a bar located near the IP Sigra area.
According to a multiple reviews shared by a victim online, an organized scam is being run using online dating platforms, particularly Tinder, to lure unsuspecting men into the establishment and extract exorbitant amounts of money.
As per the allegation, women hired by the bar allegedly connect with men through dating apps and invite them for a casual meeting or date at the said location. Once inside the bar, the victim claims that the woman orders multiple drinks, which are presented as alcoholic beverages but are allegedly non-alcoholic or cold drinks served in a misleading manner.
He further alleged that the drinks are billed at extremely inflated rates, with charges reportedly going up to ₹2,000 for just 30 ml. Victims are allegedly pressured or forced to pay the final bill, leaving them with little choice due to the situation created inside the premises.
The matter has sparked concern over the misuse of dating platforms and the safety of individuals meeting strangers through such apps. The complainant has stated that they plan to approach the police soon and seek a formal investigation into the issue.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the allegations. However, citizens are being advised to remain cautious while meeting unknown individuals through online platforms and to verify venues before visiting.
If proven, such practices would amount to serious violations of consumer rights and criminal law. Police action is expected once a formal complaint is registered.
