Alcohol Consumption Inside Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital Lab: Suspension Recommended After Viral Video

Varanasi: Authorities have taken action in the alcohol consumption case inside the pathology laboratory of Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital after a video of the incident went viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage.
According to hospital officials, the Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS), Dr. R.S. Ram, has recommended the suspension of lab technician Jitendra Kumar following an internal inquiry into the matter. A formal letter recommending the suspension has been sent to the Director General of Health for further action.
Apart from the technician, three contractual employees who were seen in the viral video have also been removed from their duties. The video reportedly showed individuals consuming alcohol inside the pathology lab premises, with medical testing equipment visible nearby.
The incident raised serious concerns among hospital authorities as the pathology lab plays a crucial role in conducting important medical tests, including blood examinations for emergency patients and pregnant women.
Officials described the act as irresponsible and unacceptable, emphasizing that strict discipline must be maintained in medical facilities where patient care and safety are directly involved. Further action may be taken depending on the final decision from higher health authorities.
