A severe cold wave continues to affect Varanasi and the entire Purvanchal region, with temperatures plunging sharply and dense fog blanketing the area. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold day alert, warning residents to remain cautious as harsh weather conditions are expected to persist over the coming days.

According to weather officials, the minimum temperature has dipped below 9°C, while the maximum temperature remains nearly 6.3°C below normal, indicating unusually cold conditions for this time of year. Cold westerly winds sweeping in from the Himalayan region, coupled with the influence of a western disturbance, have intensified the chill across eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Sun Remains Hidden, Fog Persists

Residents reported that the sun failed to appear throughout the day, keeping the atmosphere cold and damp. Dense fog during early morning and late evening hours has reduced visibility, affecting road and rail movement across several districts, including Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, and Mirzapur.

Health Advisory Issued

Health officials have advised citizens—especially the elderly, children, and those with respiratory ailments—to take necessary precautions. People are urged to avoid early morning outings, wear adequate warm clothing, and stay indoors whenever possible.

Weather Outlook

Meteorological experts have indicated that cold day conditions are likely to continue for the next few days, with little relief expected until wind patterns shift. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged the public to stay alert.
