Varanasi: Police took strict action against taxi and auto drivers accused of misbehaving with passengers at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi.

According to officials, drivers were allegedly harassing passengers and forcing them to hire their taxis near the airport’s arrival gate. Many passengers had complained that drivers would surround them as soon as they stepped out of the airport, creating inconvenience and sometimes behaving rudely if the passengers refused their services.

Taking the complaints seriously, the Uttar Pradesh Police team from Phoolpur police station launched a surprise enforcement drive on Monday. During the operation, four drivers accused of troubling passengers were arrested, while two vehicles causing obstruction in the arrival lane were seized.

Earlier, Akash Patel had held a meeting with taxi and auto drivers and issued a final warning. Drivers were clearly instructed not to approach passengers in the arrival lane and to use only the designated parking areas.

Despite the warning, complaints continued, prompting the police to deploy four personnel permanently at the airport premises. Authorities have again warned taxi and auto unions that strict action will be taken against any driver found misbehaving with passengers or violating parking rules.
